Biography
Charles Kaura was an indebted farmer evicted from his farm at Cushing, Maine by town selectmen aided by state troopers. A Rockland worker-correspondent report in the Daily Worker of August 31, 1933, page 4, says the officials broke furniture including the stove, leaving his family sleeping by the roadside, and arrested him the following day for failure to provide for the family. The report calls the charge a frame-up because officials had deprived him of his home and cooking equipment. A judge imposed an unspecified fine; Kaura appealed and was out on bail furnished by the Knox County International Labor Defense. Exact arrest, sentence and release days are absent.
