Biography

Charles Jungle was a Black worker beaten and jailed in Brooklyn on a felonious-assault accusation after intervening when Patrolman Letz and Daniel Pellegrint were beating an unemployed Black man at Atlantic Avenue station. The report says Devoe and Jungle were walking home Saturday night; reserves were called and arrested them. Page 2 carries a September 1 header inside the September 2 issue, so the relative day is not stored as an exact arrest date. Allegations of police brutality are attributed to the newspaper.
