Biography

Caspar Turner, a young Black man, was under arrest with a broken skull in Kings County Hospital, Brooklyn when Sadie Van Veen wrote in the February 5, 1936 Daily Worker. A white man knocked him down the Avenue J subway stairs in view of a policeman. Police alleged he pulled a knife and contemplated charges of annoying two white girls and attempted assault; the author questioned whether the girls existed. He was near death. No conviction, discharge, or precise arrest day is established. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1936/v13-n031-NY-feb-05-1936-DW-Q.pdf#page=7
