Brendan Munro Thompson
Biography
Brendan Munro Thompson, publicly identified as Bella Thompson and Bella Castillo, was arrested after an immigration protest near Coast Guard Island in Alameda on October 23, 2025. Federal officers shot Thompson after prosecutors alleged that a rented truck was reversed toward their blockade. Thompson was treated for the gunshot wound, held for a psychiatric evaluation, booked into Santa Rita Jail, and charged federally. A judge released Thompson on bail on November 21, 2025 to live with family and attend outpatient mental-health treatment while the case continued.
The FBI affidavit sworn October 29, 2025 describes police detention and guarding at Highland Hospital after treatment for the October 23 gunshot wound. It alleges that a rented truck reversed toward Coast Guard personnel during the immigration-enforcement protest, while expressly acknowledging that the truck made no physical contact with them. These are the affiant’s probable-cause allegations, not a finding of guilt. The complaint’s filing and warrant request are separate from the earlier hospital custody; the source gives no completed custody total. The independently established later bail release remains preserved. Source: https://www.justice.gov/usao-ndca/media/1416886/dl?inline=#page=10
