Biography
Billy Maurice Ogden was a Los Angeles-area writer and defense-industry employee prosecuted under the federal false-statements law for denying Communist Party membership and association on a security-clearance form. A jury convicted him in January 1961 and the court imposed concurrent two-year prison sentences. The Ninth Circuit remanded the case for a Jencks Act hearing and later left the conviction and sentence intact; the Supreme Court denied review on April 6, 1964. The reviewed decisions do not establish that Ogden was jailed or began serving the sentence.
