Biography

Beth Johnson was among twelve workers prosecuted after an August 25, 1932 Communist election rally at Charlton and Waverly Streets in Newark. The November 5 Daily Worker reports that Judge Albano imposed $20 fines or forty days the previous day, and gave Beth Johnson three additional days for contempt. Solomon Golat represented the defendants for International Labor Defense; appeals were filed. The forty-day alternative is not a finding that it was actually served. No exact jail admission, physical discharge date or total custody duration is supplied. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1932/v09-n265-NY-nov-05-1932-DW-LOC.pdf#page=2
