Biography
Bernard Hirotake Matano was a Nisei Japanese American child of Konin and Tamako Matano. JCCH records the birth year as 1934 without an exact date. The individual archive record documents March 1945 departure from Hawaii to join confined family members, Sharp Park detention in March 1945, Crystal City family confinement March-December 1945 and return to Honolulu aboard Shawnee in December 1945. This was administrative US wartime family confinement in the context of Japanese ancestry; no individual criminal conviction is established.
