Biography

Ben Golden was stage director of the New Theatre Group. The Daily Worker of June 3, 1935, page 2, names him among nine people police seized when raiding a performance of Waiting for Lefty at Ukrainian Hall on Beacon Street, Newark, and says all were held without bail in the Fourth police precinct. That June 2 dispatch says the raid was the previous night, while a separate June 3 page-3 brief also calls it the previous night. The conflicting relative dates are preserved without selecting an exact arrest day. A Monday court appearance was announced, without its outcome.
