Biography
August Wilhelm Lahtinen was a Finnish-born labor activist whom immigration authorities accused of past Communist Party membership. The Immigration and Naturalization Service served him with an order to show cause on February 13, 1958 and later ordered his deportation. His challenge reached the federal courts in 1961. The reviewed record describes a civil deportation proceeding and does not show that Lahtinen was arrested or detained.
