Biography

Armando Lopez was a Tampa labor militant sentenced to twenty-six days on the chain gang, described by the January 27 dispatch as punishment for being a Communist and found in Tampa. Authorities refused a $5,000 property bond raised by workers, and ILD lawyer E. L. Bryan planned a habeas corpus application pending appeal. The sentence is not counted as twenty-six days actually served, and no exact arrest or sentencing day is supplied. Page 3. The January 20 Tampa bulletin identifies Lopez as arrested with Eviqueta Palacios and Yorkina Romero after visiting Homer Barton in jail, on the Communist-presence accusation used against Barton. This supplies circumstances for the existing January prosecution, without a guessed individual day or extra case. The annual review’s January entry corroborates the Tampa twenty-six-day chain-gang sentence for being a Communist and found in Tampa. It supplies no physical discharge or proof of the complete twenty-six days actually served.
