Biography
The Reverend Anne S. Hall is a Lutheran pastor and longtime campaigner for nuclear disarmament. She became involved in the anti-nuclear movement in the early 1980s after attending a Seattle presentation on the human consequences of nuclear war. Hall later worked with the Ground Zero Center for Nonviolent Action and the Pacific Life Community in Washington, repeatedly joining vigils and civil-resistance actions at the Trident submarine base at Bangor. She served six days in the Camden County Jail after a January 1989 protest at the Kings Bay Trident base in Georgia and continued organizing against nuclear weapons for decades afterward.
The October 2024 Ground Zero memorial identifies her as Anne Straffin Hall, wife of psychiatrist and disarmament activist David Connolly Hall III, whom she married in 1970. They joined Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility in 1979 and spent decades with Ground Zero, repeatedly taking part in nonviolent actions at Bangor. David died August 12, 2024 on Lopez Island. His conscientious-objector alternative service at Western State Hospital was not imprisonment.
