Biography
Ali Shokri was a former member of the Iranian Air Force who defected to the United States in 1973 and sought protection from political persecution under the Shah. Immigration authorities later sought to deport him, prompting an international defense campaign. The sources reviewed document the deportation dispute but do not show that Shokri was arrested, booked or imprisoned in the United States.
