Biography

Alfred Hassan was a Black Panther prisoner and prison-conditions organizer in Denver County Jail in 1969. Fellow prisoner Landon Williams identified Hassan by name and described his protests against unsanitary conditions, signing of inmates’ grievances, and subsequent confinement in the hole after officials accused them of leading a protest. This contemporary account supports a historical record of political activity and alleged retaliation during substantial actual confinement. It does not establish Hassan’s underlying criminal charge, judicial verdict, admission date, final release or complete time detained. Williams also described Hassan resisting these conditions for over seven months; this is not used as an exact completed custody total.

Landon Williams’s contemporary account describes Hassan’s actual confinement in Denver County Jail, prison-conditions organizing, approximately a week and a half on red-tag segregation before a petition, and subsequent placement in the hole after officials called them ringleaders. These are attributed allegations of retaliatory jail discipline; no nominal sentence, complete duration or exact physical endpoints are inferred.
