Biography

Alexander Taylor was the American Civil Liberties Unions public-relations director. During its mid-July 1930 Newark free-speech test, police ordered the crowd at Springfield Avenue and Broome Street to move. Taylor did not move quickly enough and was placed in a police wagon with leaflet distributor Saul Stark. The planned professor speakers were not arrested. Taylors actual seizure is explicit; the history supplies no statutory charge, discharge day or complete custody duration.
