Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi
Biography
Abu Agila Mohammad Mas’ud Kheir Al-Marimi is a Libyan former intelligence operative facing a U.S. federal prosecution over the December 21, 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, which killed 270 people. Prosecutors allege that he constructed the explosive device and participated in an operation directed by Libyan intelligence officials. These allegations have not been established by a verdict in his U.S. case. He was brought into U.S. custody in December 2022 and appeared in federal court in Washington, D.C., on December 12. He pleaded not guilty. He was booked into the Alexandria Adult Detention Center in Virginia, and August 31, 2026 reporting still placed him there. His trial, previously expected to begin in August 2026, was postponed after newly disclosed evidence required further defense investigation. September reporting described January 2027 as the target for trial proceedings, with the final schedule still unsettled. No conviction or sentence has been imposed in the records reviewed.
