Biography

Marshall identifies Morton as a Maytown, Lancaster County brickmaker and former Union volunteer. He had been drafted in 1864 but the account says his township filled its quota with recruits. He was arrested on November 7, 1864 and confined in Lancaster County Prison across the election. The narrative records unconditional release on November 10 and alleges the purpose was to prevent Democratic voting. Source: John A.
