Leqaa Kordia was released from immigration detention in Texas on March 16, 2026, after posting $100,000 bond. She had been detained since March 13, 2025.
An immigration judge ordered her release on March 13, 2026. Two earlier bond decisions had been challenged by the government; this time she was able to leave and return to her family in New Jersey.
Kordia had participated in a 2024 protest outside Columbia University. Immigration authorities alleged that she had overstayed her student visa, while her lawyers challenged both the detention and the grounds for removal.
Release on bond did not end her immigration case. Her attorneys at CLEAR continued representing her in the proceedings.
