A federal judge sentenced former CIA employee Joshua Schulte to 40 years in prison on February 1, 2024. The sentence covered multiple convictions, including espionage, computer hacking, contempt of court and false statements.
The espionage case concerned CIA cyberintelligence tools disclosed to WikiLeaks in the publication known as Vault 7. Prosecutors said Schulte took the material from a classified network where he had worked as a software developer.
The 40-year term is the aggregate sentence for the convictions addressed in the judgment. The Justice Department’s sentencing announcement identifies the offenses included in the judgment.
