A federal grand jury indicted Casey Robert Goonan on July 24, 2024, in a case involving alleged arson attacks at the University of California, Berkeley. Goonan had been arrested on June 17.
The indictment included two counts of damaging or destroying property by fire or explosives and one count of possessing an unregistered firearm. One incident involved a university police vehicle.
Investigators relied on surveillance evidence and other material described in the charging documents. At the indictment stage, those were allegations to be tested in court, not findings of guilt.
