Biography

Ziad Abu Ein, recorded by U.S. courts as Ziyad Abu Eain, was held in Chicago during contested extradition proceedings beginning in August 1979. Israel accused him of involvement in the May 1979 Tiberias market bombing that killed two children and injured more than thirty people. The U.S. proceedings determined extraditability rather than guilt at a U.S. criminal trial: the courts found probable cause and rejected his political-offense defense. The contemporary Torch account describes more than two years of actual detention, independently corroborated by court records describing continuing custody through multiday hearings. August21 and22 arrest accounts conflict, so arrest and detention are recorded only to August 1979 month precision. Exact physical discharge or handover remains unverified here; no foreign custody or claimed later freedom is substituted for an American release date.

The November 13, 1981 Revolutionary Worker lists Ziad Abu Ein, identified as an imprisoned Palestinian facing extradition, among endorsers of the Mass Proletarian War Crimes Tribunal of U.S. Imperialism. The endorsement supplies political activity and contemporary identification; it does not establish a new custody admission or release.
