Biography
Yaakov Strasberg is a independent reporter. Police arrested the journalist on May 31, 2026, while documenting protests outside the Delaney Hall immigration detention facility in Newark. The journalist told the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker that officers prevented the journalist from leaving a police enclosure despite identifying as press, forced the journalist to the ground, and used tight zip ties. The journalist was held in police custody overnight and released on June 1. Reporting in June documented that resisting-arrest and riot charges had been dropped or reduced, leaving a failure-to-disperse charge.
