Biography
Willie Reid was a Black man described as twenty-two, killed by Bainbridge, Georgia police before a lynch mob reached the jail. Southern Worker reports the police claimed he was attempting to escape, and that the mob subsequently burned his bullet-riddled body in the local ball park. The article places the killing in the month before its July 1937 issue; that relative reference is not converted into an exact death date or birth year. Jail/escape circumstances establish custody, but the original charge, intake day and duration are unprinted.
