Biography

Willie Grove was a Share Croppers Union supporter detained during the 1935 Alabama cotton strike. A contemporary report states that police arrested him and two others for carrying union cards, released them, and then arrested Grove again on an accusation of robbing a store. The September 2 report calls for his release but gives no exact custody endpoints or court outcome.

Daily Worker, September 3, 1935, original PDF pages 2

The completed release followed by rearrest is individually stated for Grove. The article’s demand for his immediate release confirms ongoing confinement in this reported episode; neither arrest day nor release day is supplied. This is not Willie Witcher’s separate wounded confinement.

The report’s accusations are not convictions. Birth and death dates, other imprisonment, unreported release timing and total custody duration remain unverified. No demographic attributes, ideology category or organizational affiliation taxonomy is inferred.
