Biography

William Wiertola was an IWW member named in the Omaha federal investigation following the November 13, 1917 convention raid. He was indicted on September 21, 1918, but was not arrested and served no jail or prison time in the case.

The March 1920 One Big Union Monthly prisoner roster provides a contemporaneous procedural account. The roster lists an Omaha federal conspiracy indictment dated September 21, 1918, and bail of $10,000. The roster prints Wm. Weirtola and expressly states that he was indicted September 21 but not arrested. He is excluded from actual-custody additions; indictment does not establish time in jail.
