Biography
The July 22 issue reports arrest at the Friday July 19, 1929 demonstration outside the Nanking consulate, 13 Astor Place, New York, opposing action against the Soviet Union. The case was heard by Magistrate Hyman Bushel with ILD attorney Jacques Buitenkant defending. Identified as Communist New York district organizer and mayoral candidate; the accounts agree on a suspended sentence. The judge exempted him from fingerprinting because he was a candidate. The issue contains inconsistent counts and disposition lists across pages 1 and 5; those conflicts are preserved without manufacturing a final discharge date or full original custody total.
