Biography
William Schneiderman was the secretary of the California Communist Party and, after the 1951 arrests, its acting national head. Seized in New York on $100,000 bail and taken to California in handcuffs, he was a lead Smith Act defendant; he had earlier been the subject of the Supreme Court's 1943 Schneiderman v. United States denaturalization case.
Daily Worker, December 28, 1929, page 1: A December 27 San Francisco dispatch individually names Schneiderman among six Communist defendants facing six months or a $500 fine for a demonstration defending the Soviet Union and expressing solidarity with Haitian workers. Sentencing was prospective. This earlier California prosecution is distinct from his later Smith Act case; no exact arrest day, physical detention duration or imposed final disposition is supplied.
