Biography

William Mackie was a Portland, Oregon house painter targeted for deportation over alleged Communist Party membership from 1937 to 1939. Immigration authorities arrested him on June 17, 1952. A deportation order followed on June 30, 1953, and Mackie continued fighting removal for years. The government deported him to Finland on November 18, 1960. The surviving record does not establish his release date after the 1952 arrest.
