Biography

William Krauleidis was a German-born, unnaturalized minister in Nebraska who was arrested by a deputy U.S. marshal and taken to Grand Island after investigators reported that he possessed a gun. His congregation protested that the weapon was for protection and denied that his sermons were political. He was actually interned until after the war and released in 1919; the author describes June as apparent rather than certain. The book connects the action to official efforts to make an example among Lutheran ministers. No exact admission, release day or total confinement is established. William H.
