Biography

Wilfredo Puentes was a seventeen-year-old threatened with deportation to Cuba in Tampa, Florida. His father, Lorenzo Puentes, was a trade unionist who had entered the United States legally in 1926. Immigration authorities demanded a $1,000 bond for Wilfredo. Protests secured his release into the custody of attorney Edwin L. Bryan in January 1937. The American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born supported his defense.
