Biography

Walter Holtsmith was an S. L. Allen Company worker and Farm Implement Workers Union striker in Philadelphia. The May 15 dispatch identifies him as 19 years old and says he and the other young striker were arrested on the picket line, held incommunicado for twenty-two hours, moved among stations and denied food, drink and sleep before signing confessions. The paper attributes the targeting to their strike militancy. Four assault indictments and a May 26 court date are reported; no verdict or exact arrest/discharge day is supplied.
