Biography

Walter Barrnis was among the workers arrested after the March 11, 1932 unemployment-relief demonstration at Humboldt Park, Chicago. The March 13 dispatch published in the March 14 Daily Worker says eighteen workers were still held on inciting-riot, unlawful-assembly and disorderly-conduct charges, and explicitly places Barrnis in Bridewell Hospital after police beat him. The original print was magnified to confirm Barrnis rather than the OCR reading Barrnls. Ongoing confinement is documented; the precise hospital intake, release and complete time served are unknown. This is distinct from the unnamed March 12 antiwar arrests. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1932/v09-n062-NY-mar-14-1932-DW-LOC.pdf#page=1
