Biography

W. W. Goodman was a Harlan County miner who testified for the arrested National Miners Union strike organizers at Pineville in January 1932. The January 15 Daily Worker reports his testimony that his child died of a starvation-related disease after five carloads of Harlan deputies forced him from the county. When he left the stand, Prosecutor Smith had him arrested in open court to be turned over to Harlan deputies. Other defense witnesses then refused to testify without protection. The article supplies his initials only and does not establish an individual charge, conviction, release or detention total.
