Biography

Virginia Earl was a member of the Young Communist League arrested on Sunday, February 16, 1936, outside St. Sebastian Catholic Church at 58th Street and Woodside Avenue in Woodside, Long Island. The Daily Worker, February 18, 1936, page 3 says the pair were distributing leaflets exposing Hitler’s attacks on Catholic youth organizations in Germany. They were taken to the precinct police station, booked for disorderly conduct and held under $500 bail each. The paper prints the station as the “108th Street Precinct”; this wording is retained without inventing an institution identity. No verdict, sentence, release day or served duration is reported.
