Biography
Vincent Africa, also known as John Africa, founded MOVE and authored its Guidelines. The organization’s own booklet describes his revolutionary, religious and communal teachings and its organizing against pollution, animal abuse and police violence. It reports that he and Alfonso Africa were indicted on September 1, 1977 in a federal bomb-making and weapons case; they were arrested in Rochester, New York on May 13, 1981 and extradited to Philadelphia. Both represented themselves and were acquitted on all federal charges in July 1981. A caption identifies Vincent after the verdict. The July acquittal is not independently identified as a physical-release day. Source: https://azinelibrary.org/approved/25-years-move-1.pdf#page=34
