Biography

The July 1975 Black Community News Letter, Awakening of a Dragon, individually listed Victor Cumberbatch in its "Write to Political Prisoners and POWs" directory, with a correspondence address in 1414 Hazen St., East Elmhurst. The listing documents historical confinement but does not establish the underlying charge, sentence, admission or release date, or later custody status.

The January 27, 1976 Dragon Fire prisoner correspondence directory listed Victor Cumberbatch, number 75-A-2719, at Dannemora, New York. This documents a later historical prison placement than the July 1975 Rikers Island listing, without establishing an exact transfer date, conviction or sentence.

The newsletter’s May 30, 1975 prisoner statement individually names Victor Cumberbatch among incarcerated New York political prisoners. This supplements the directory’s historical Rikers Island placement. Original admission, final discharge, underlying charge and total imprisonment are not supplied. The contemporary directory names Victor Cumberbatch among political prisoners and prisoners of war receiving correspondence in July 1975. This preserves the source’s historical classification; it does not independently establish a political charge or present custody status.

Historical correspondence address as printed: 1414 Hazen St., East Elmhurst.

The appendix names him among prisoners in an alleged February 16, 1975 Rikers Island escape attempt. This confirms historical confinement on that date, not an original admission or final discharge. The account is attributed to the state report; no new conviction or sentence is inferred from the alleged attempt. The earlier Tombs account places the Torres brothers, Washington, Anthony Bottoms and Herman Bell in custody awaiting trial.
