Biography
Tyshaun T. Smith was arrested by Milwaukee police on May 31, 2020, after investigators accused him of throwing a Molotov cocktail through a Boost Mobile store window during unrest following the murder of George Floyd. A federal grand jury indicted him on June 16. He pleaded guilty on September 22, 2021, to possessing a Molotov cocktail that had not been registered as required by federal law, under a binding agreement for three years in prison. Bureau of Prisons records list his release on July 26, 2024.

Initial complaint and limits of the warrant evidence
The June 4, 2020 criminal complaint in Eastern District of Wisconsin case 20-M-308 (SCD), supported by ATF agent Luke Barker’s affidavit, initially alleged attempted arson under 18 U.S.C. §844(i) and possession of a destructive device made in violation of the National Firearms Act under 26 U.S.C. §5861(c). These initial accusations are distinct from the later possession conviction already described in this profile. The affidavit recounts Milwaukee police handcuffing Smith after the May 31 incident and an interview the next day.
