Biography
Tommy Atwood was arrested on March 6, 1972 with the Reverend Benjamin Chavis and Marvin Patrick and accused of conspiring to murder Harvey Cumber during the February 1971 racial violence in Wilmington, North Carolina. Atwood remained jailed through the March 30 probable-cause hearing and was released on bail with the other Wilmington defendants on June 16, 1972. The reviewed records do not establish a later conviction or custodial sentence in the Cumber case.
