Biography

Todd Friend III was a member of Orange Grove Friends Meeting and one of the Pasadena Three, residents of a Quaker-supported draft-resistance community who removed and burned Selective Service files on May 20, 1969. Friend received a three-year federal sentence for destroying the records. Friends Journal documented him in Los Angeles County Jail by November 1969, later at federal facilities in Florence, Arizona, and La Tuna, Texas, and reported that he completed the sentence on December 27, 1971.

The September 1, 1971 Sufferings roster places this prisoner at La Tuna, with mail through Anthony, New Mexico and identifies affiliation with Orange Grove Meeting, California. The roster confirms confinement at its reporting time without establishing an exact admission, transfer or release day, a new case, or a complete actual duration.
