Biography
Timothy Crady was an Irish immigrant ferryman arrested in November 1795 after a dispute with New York alderman Gabriel Furman. The court imposed two months’ imprisonment. Crady was also sentenced to twenty lashes. The ferrymen escaped. Their treatment became a controversy over official power and unequal justice, championed by William Keteltas; it was not a prosecution for an established political organization.
