Biography
Tim DeChristopher was an environmental activist who attempted to bid on disputed parcels of public land during a Bureau of Land Management oil and gas lease auction in an attempt to protect the land from oil drilling. DeChristopher was immediately arrested at the auction and charged with making false statements and violating the Federal Onshore Oil and Gas Leasing Reform Act. A month later a federal judge voided the auction after ruling that it was held illegally by Bush Administration officials who were hoping to lease the disputed land before the arrival of the new administration.
Prison and later federal endpoint review October 13, 2026: The unsupported San Quentin assignment is cleared. Contemporary reporting based on his attorney identifies Colorado custody followed by Herlong and the October 24, 2012 transfer to a Salt Lake City halfway house. That physical prison exit remains the endpoint of the existing prison interval. BOP register 16156-081 reports April 19, 2013 noncustody, corroborated by AP's April 21 report of Friday's actual release. This later federal endpoint is not substituted for the prison exit. The proposed February home-supervision transition is not treated as an executed event; no continuous halfway-house duration or undocumented arrest day is invented.
