Biography

Page 1’s September 27 Concord dispatch names this Young Communist League organizer as arrested in Gastonia the previous day while distributing leaflets. The Magistrate’s Court convicted both Sylvia Crouch and Belle Weaver September 27 of violating a city ordinance and imposed suspended sentences. Page 2 records a union/ILD delegation asking Frances Perkins for their release; this demand does not supersede the more specific suspended-sentence report. The September 6 Helper dispatch reports her unconditional release without charges following a habeas corpus writ during the Utah coal strike. It does not state the exact arrest or physical discharge day, nor measure complete detention. This is separate from her already recorded 1934 Gastonia leaflet case.
