Biography

Syd Brown was a white participant arrested in the October 22, 1933 police raid on an interracial unemployment-relief conference at Old Pythian Hall in Birmingham. The Daily Worker of October 25 names him among seven participants jailed on vagrancy and the city ordinance prohibiting interracial meetings. Their city-court hearing was scheduled for October 25. The report does not establish a conviction, physical release or complete detention length. The same issue also prints his given name as Sid.
