Steven James Murphy, age 43, was charged in 2009 with attempted arson, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and conspiracy to commit arson for a 2006 attempted ELF-claimed firebombing of unfinished townhomes in Pasadena, California. Sentenced to 60 months federal prison plus 3 years supervised release.

Arrest and official endpoint review October 13, 2026: FBI's October 1, 2009 arrest announcement explicitly says Wednesday morning and yesterday, establishing September 30. The legacy October 15 arrest/admission is contradicted; arrest is corrected and unsupported continuous admission cleared. BOP matches existing register 39013-177, Steve James Murphy, age 60, and February 25, 2014 noncustody. The release precision is corrected from year to day; unsupported 1539 exact days are cleared. Exact admission and executed sentencing day remain unresolved.
A retrospective December 2011 prisoner update reports that Steve Murphy was sentenced to five years in April 2010 after pleading guilty in the Pasadena construction-site attempted-arson case. It does not establish the actual sentencing day or the beginning of physical custody.
