Biography

Steve Long was the Free Breakfast Program coordinator for the Connecticut State Chapter of the Black Panther Party. Warrants were issued after a July 2, 1970 confrontation at a People’s Block Party in New Haven, where Long and Chuck Scott intervened as an officer moved against children marching in the street. The FBI arrested Long in New Jersey in January 1971 and immediately extradited him to Connecticut. He was held in New Haven on $20,000 bail on charges of robbery with violence, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. His exact booking and release dates and final disposition have not been located.
