Biography

Attorney for George Jackson. The Black Panther Vol. 19 no.10 (1979) describes as absurd the prosecution's 'gun-in-a-wig' theory that he smuggled a pistol to Jackson on Aug. 21, 1971. He surfaced years later and was acquitted in 1986.

The Militant report spells the attorney’s given name Steven and reports that Judge Joseph G. Wilson refused to stop the grand jury investigating him, Hugo Pinell and Larry Spain after the August21,1971 San Quentin violence. It attributes to authorities the allegation that he brought George Jackson a gun inside a tape recorder. The allegation is not stated as proven and does not change Bingham’s later acquittal.
