Biography

Stanley King was a defendant prosecuted following the 1970 rebellion at the Manhattan House of Detention, known as the Tombs. The Militant identified King and Herbert X. Blyden as the last two prisoners still facing trial. On February 13, 1973, New York Supreme Court judge Xavier Riccobono dismissed their remaining charges, holding that the two-year delay violated their right to a speedy trial. District Attorney Frank Hogan criticized the ruling. This report does not establish King’s original custody dates or release date. The paper identifies this person as a Tombs inmate still awaiting trial on charges arising from the 1970 rebellion. It supplies no new admission, release or complete custody duration. Right On! names the seven elected Tombs prisoner representatives in a 72-count indictment placed against them on January 25, 1971, over the October 22, 1970 rebellion: fifty kidnapping, fourteen unlawful-imprisonment, five coercion and one each reckless-endangerment, riot and interference-with-government-administration counts. Its expression “dropped ... on” describes bringing the indictment, not dismissing it. The publication alleges retaliation for prisoners’ organizing and legal education. No physical release date or final disposition follows from this report.
