Biography

Sol Davis was a Black worker jailed in Birmingham, Alabama, under the Downs Literature Ordinance on October 16, 1935. The October 17 dispatch published October 18 says he was released that day after the city solicitor advised the police chief that there was insufficient evidence for conviction. The International Labor Defense linked this outcome to its successful challenge of a similar Bessemer ordinance. The newspaper states no individual literature title, later prosecution or full custody duration.
