Biography
Sidney Steinberg, prosecuted as Sidney Stein, was a Communist Party organizer who became a fugitive after his June 1951 Smith Act indictment. FBI agents arrested him on August 27, 1953 at the California cabin where fugitive Smith Act defendant Robert Thompson was staying. A jury convicted Stein in April 1954 as an accessory after the fact for assisting Thompson, and he received a three-year federal sentence. He surrendered after conviction and served more than two years before August 1956.
