Sidney Bloomfield was the New England campaign manager of the Workers (Communist) Party. Alex Bail’s ballot-access report says he was arrested while collecting petition signatures on the streets of Manchester, New Hampshire, and ordered to leave the city. The article reports the successful ballot petition but gives no exact arrest day, statutory charge, jail admission, conviction, individual discharge or measured duration. Page 2’s August 24 Boston dispatch reports the Communist Party office raided that day by Red Squad chief Goldstine. Sidney Bloomfield, Alice Ward, OBrien and two unnamed people were arrested on a lottery pretext based on a Daily Worker contest. The report links the raid to preparations to support textile strikers and announces ILD defense. The enlarged original resolves Alice, misread Rice by OCR. His existing 1928 ballot-petition arrest remains a separate case. Source: https://www.marxists.org/history/usa/pubs/dailyworker/1934/v11-n204-aug-25-1934-DW-LOC.pdf
Page 3’s October 9 Chelsea notice identifies Bloomfield as Communist Party district organization secretary and announces him as principal speaker for the following Sunday’s fifteenth-anniversary celebration at 232 Broadway.
