Biography

Samuel Lissitz, a Communist candidate for University of Illinois trustee and former Chicago National Student League secretary, was arrested with three workers when police attacked an election rally at Roosevelt Road and St. Louis Avenue. The August 15, 1934 dispatch says he was placed in a police lineup. Two detainees were initially freed by protest, while the other two were bailed out Sunday but held again after bail was raised Monday. The report associates Lissitz with the continuing prosecution but does not individually establish an exact arrest or release date.
